As a residential student, you are automatically a part of the Resident Students Association General Body (YAY), but we want YOU to get involved in your community through Residential Leadership Councils (RLCs)! This is an opportunity to build leadership skills as you collaborate within your residential community to create thoughtful programs that enhance residence life.

To promote campus-wide collaboration, we have created the RLC structure as follows:

RLC Executive Positions & General Body


RLCs, or Residential Learning Communities, are hall or community councils that receive guidance from your Residence Education Coordinator (REC) or Graduate Hall Advisor (GHA). Residents who take part in RLCs will attend meetings in their respective halls, organize programs, create initiatives, and enhance the overall residential experience. Each RLC has five available positions.


Role of RLC President

  • Hosts RLC meetings; votes only in case of a tie. 
  • Coordinates RLC Position Elections and ensures they follow the hall council rules.
  • Manages the general welfare of the Residential Leadership Council and delegates tasks.
  • Represents the Hall RLC at RSA meetings and brings back information to RLC meetings. 
  • Attend bi-weekly RSA meetings and participates in voting. 
  • Follow all RSA expectations and reports directly to RLC Advisor.

Role of RLC Vice President

  • Assume Council President duties when absent or incapacitated. 
  • Understand and interpret parliamentary procedure.  
  • Maintain the RLC contact list and distribute meeting minutes (unless a secretarial role is established). 
  • Attend bi-weekly RSA meetings and follow expectations outlined by RSA.
  • Act as a liaison between Hall RLC and RSA Hall Rep. 
  • Manage RLC budget and expenditures, sharing updates with the General Body and Advisor and track RLC purchases with Advisor.

 

RLC Programming Chair

  • Attend meetings of the Hall Residential Leadership Council. 
  • Plan, coordinate, and host programs or events that enhance the residential community experience.  
  • Collaborate with other RLC members to develop initiatives that align with hall and campus-wide themes. 
  • Manage event logistics, including reserving spaces, securing supplies, and promoting programs. 



RLC Marketing/Communications Chair

  • Attend Hall Residential Leadership Council meetings.
  • Create and distribute promotional materials for hall programs and initiatives in both digital and physical formats.  
  • Manage and update the hall's social media accounts and communication platforms. 
  • Collaborate with other RLC members to effectively market events and increase resident participation.  
  • Follow all expectations outlined by the RSA and the Office of Housing and Residence Life. 



Hall Representative 

  • Attend Hall Leadership Council meetings. 
  • Represent hall residents' interests during RLC discussions. 
  • Communicate RLC information to residents and gather feedback.  
  • Assist in planning and supporting hall programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the RLC and RSA. 
  • Follow all expectations from the RSA and the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

 

General Body Member

  • Attend Hall Leadership Council meetings. 
  • Participation in RSA events and bi-weekly meetings encouraged.


RSA General Body Meetings will be held on Tuesdays from 7 PM to 9 PM. Please note that if you are interested in any of the 5 RLC Executive Positions, attendance at the first RSA General Body meetings is required on September 23rd. Following, only the Hall Representative position is required to attend all RSA General Body meetings, unless additional presence is requested by a member of the RSA Executive Board. 


The meeting times for the RLC will be determined based on the schedules of the participants in coordination with your RLC Advisor.
